George Blakeway

George’s interest in Leadership and Team Performance has stemmed from many years of personal experience as well as academic research. Time spent in the military, professional sport and industry has led to a fascination in both leadership and how teams develop performance and gain competitive advantage.

After a short career as an Army Officer, George read Management Science at Loughborough University. His commercial experience began in the oil industry with Mobil and Gulf Oil (part of ChevronTexaco) where he spent five years in commercial roles before a year as a Training and Development Consultant. A period of professional rugby playing and captaining Worcester Warriors was followed by five years at Coca-Cola, predominantly in senior commercial leadership and people development roles.

George then decided to move into Learning and Development full-time and was appointed Director of Training at an international recruitment and training consultancy. After two very successful years of both training and managing the business, he founded The Fruitful Group.

In addition to his degree, he has a Marketing Diploma and an Industry Studies Diploma.

He is also qualified to use the Myers Briggs Type Instrument, SDI, Everything DiSC and The Five Behaviours of a Cohesive Team Programme.

George has always loved travel and has worked with clients across the world such as Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Australia, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, UAE, India, USA and Europe. He is proud to have worked with clients from a diverse spectrum including Deutsche Bank, HSBC, IBM, Smith & Nephew, Marriott Hotels, Barclays, Zurich, Sodexo, UK Sport, British Gas, Amazon, Boots and Northampton Rugby Club.

George competed in the 2019/2020 Clipper Round the World Yacht Race on the yacht Ha Long Bay and enjoyed the challenge, competition and camaraderie this unique leadership and team event provides. The team finished his 7,000 mile leg (London to Uruguay) on the podium in a very credible third place.
